ABOUT ME

Having spent my childhood reading books, visiting art galleries, watching films and going to the theatre, it seemed inevitable that I would build a career working with arts, culture and heritage.

For more than 35 years I have worked across arts, media, heritage and cultural organisations, developing experience in marketing, communications, audience development, fundraising and project development. From my early career as a Box Office Assistant through to senior roles including Head of Marketing at West Dean College and Gardens, I have worked with organisations to share their stories, engage audiences and develop support for their work.

Alongside this professional career, I have established myself as a film historian, cultural writer, researcher, lecturer and speaker. My published work spans cinema, literature and social history, including books, educational resources, BFI Blu-ray essays and contributions to anthologies. My writing explores the connections between cinema, literature, social history and place, from filmmakers and performers to writers, landscapes and communities.

I currently work with Chichester Cathedral Restoration and Development Trust, where I raise funds and the profile of projects spanning music, education, heritage and the arts.

1. As a child I was in some TV adverts. Can you spot me in these two?

2. I love swimming in the sea and, since 2020, have swum throughout the year including winter. Cold, but amazing.

3. Inspired by a course at West Dean, I now make jewellery and collages from found objects.

4. Given my surname, it was probably inevitable that I would become fascinated by Alice in Wonderland. I now own more than 120 film and TV adaptations.

5. The British film star Margaret Lockwood was my grandfather’s first cousin. Sadly I never met her, but I do love her films.
